Now with two locations, Le Garde Robe rests comfortably within the current Paris bar à vins format. Natural wine? Check. Charcuterie? Check. Cheese? Check. The prices are gentle and, at the location in the 1st, a gregarious crowd spills onto the sidewalk in warmer weather. A good choice if you’re feeling peckish but forgot to make plans. Bottles to go, as well.
This historic spot is known for oysters and grand platters of fruits de mer, as well as its classified, Louis Majorelle – designed art deco toilettes.
A favorite address for udon and rice bowls. Reservations are not accepted, so be prepared to queue unless you go early.
Willi’s turned 30 in 2010, which is no small feat, considering that most restaurants have a lifespan shorter than the average goldfish. Mark Williamson’s impressive wine list and unique hospitality can be enjoyed two ways: From a seat at the bar, or at a table in the dining room, which is packed with suits from the Bourse at lunch, and an Anglo-heavy crowd in the evenings.
Sharing is encouraged at this contemporary, convivial, Basque-style tapas restaurant from Alain Dutournier. Open all day, every day, and now with an additional location in the 6th.
Critics continue to wax poetic over chef Yannick Alleno’s astounding cooking at this bastion of fine dining. But the real poetry is there on each masterfully composed plate. A Michelin 3-star.
This wine bar, run by the inimitable Tim Johnston (a Scot!) is frequented by loyal regulars and hefty handful of Anglo visitors, happily drinking a bottle taken from the shelves or eating something from the simple, meaty menu. This might be the only place in Paris to get haggis. Bottles to go, too.
This second location of La Régalade has been full since chef Bruno Doucet opened the doors in spring of 2010.
On a lovely corner near the Place des Victoires, Les Fines Gueules adheres to the good-ingredients-prepared-simply formula. Open every day, noon-11:30 p.m.
Issé has changed formats a few times over the years, and now it’s a “bistro à sake”, offering a menu of izakaya — small plates — for grazing while sipping something from the serious selection of sake.
Round up a group and get thee to Olio Pane Vino for handmade pasta dishes and Francesco’s unmistakably Italian hospitality.

The more elegant sibling of Willi’s Wine Bar, Maceo’s grand, light filled dining room on the edge of the Palais Royale has plenty of romantic appeal. Thierry Bourbonnais offers elegant, seasonal cooking — there is even a vegetarian menu — and the wine list runs deep. Large tables and rooms available for private booking make this a good choice for groups.
The sight and smell of this sparkling poissonnerie will transport you from Paris to the seashore. Take something home or eat sûr place.
