Aaron Ayscough (2010) “The proprietor, one Jean-Jacques Bailly, has been there 21 years, and in the Paris wine retail scene that amounts to a good head start on other caves in building the sorts of finicky, trust-based relationships with vignerons and agents that are necessary to stock the great names of wine…”

  1. We found this little shop in 2009 just before our first visit to Burgundy.
When we told Mnsr. Bailly we came from Melbourne in Australia, he enquired about 2 towns he visited 25 yrs ago……about 15minutes down the road from us.
We asked him for any advice he may have before we headed off to Burgundy for the first time.
“Above all” he said, “don’t rush it….take your time. Finding good Burgundy can be difficult, even for locals. And if you go to Beaune, then Ma Cusine is equal to the best for authentic cuisine.”
Great advice…..We loved it so much there, we bought a place..!

  2. Jean -Jacques knows his wines very well and prices them fairly. It is a real pleasure for someone who loves good wine, like my wife and I, to get to know someone like him. We go at least once a month to chat and stock up. Once he knows what you like, he will lead you to some great wines at fair pries. if you want cheap, stop at Monoprix or Nicolas–if you want good wine, go see Jean -Jacques .

  3. Absolute fun. Monsieur Bailly switches to English when he hears your accent but don’t let that deter you. I agree with all the comments: interesting wines at fair prices. Just tell him what you’re eating and how much you want to spend. The rest is up to him. And he has a delightful sense of humor so be prepared for witty banter.

  4. Completely sensational little wine shop. The owner is very helpful, knowledgable and speaks very fine English. Lots of uncommon wine gems at very fair prices. Expensive ones, too. Definitely worth a a trip on the Metro.

  5. Mssr Bailly is fluent in English and has a fine selection of interesting wines and grower champagnes at reasonable prices and as well was a great source of local dining options. His small shop was stacked high with cases of fine wines to suit all tastes and budgets. Charming !!
