Ho ho ho! We hope that you’ve enjoyed counting down the days before Christmas with a new Bûche de Noël every morning. Our final cake, boasting edible fungus and a silver saw, comes from Pierre Hermé. Happy holidays, everyone!
Where can you score a great baguette in Paris? We asked our contributing advisors – a group of Paris-based food writers – to name five favorite places for a baguette fix. The overall favorite: Eric Kayser.
- François Simon has been invited to a dinner that promises sushi and desserts served in tiny glasses, to be followed by some frolic in “small corridors, dark rooms, couches and mattresses.” We are shocked and disgusted by this report. I mean, who in 2011 is still serving verrines? [Simon Says!]
- Adam continues fighting the good fight by reviewing croissants from Bread & Roses (which may have trumped his former favorite from Des Gateaux et du Pain), Poilâne (“a notch above really good”) and Eric Kayser, which serves a croissant with “good internal structure that provides a more than satisfactory mouth-feel.” To contribute to Adam’s continued mouth well-feeling, you can offer suggestions in our discussion forum about which croissant he should digest next. [Paris Pâtisseries]
Do not let the multiple locations fool you into thinking that this is some kind of mediocre chain bakery; the breads at Kayser are excellent, and you’ll be happy that there are so many around town.
