Sweet Teeth
- Bruno raves about the Easter treats at Jacques Genin. Each “aesthetically stunning” chocolate egg is decorated with a painting by Mark Alsterlind, and qualifies, in Bruno’s words, as a real oeufvre d’art. [Food Intelligence]
- Nunu Chocolates, an artisanal Brooklyn brand, will be on exhibit at the Brachfeld Gallery from April 12-26. A small husband/wife/friend team will be making and selling truffles inside the gallery space from 2-7pm Tues-Sun, and running workshops on chocolate making and chocolate/wine pairing. [Choco Paris]
Coffee Culture
- Omid Tavallai breaks down the offerings at the new café Coutume, which roasts its own beans and serves coffee made via four different methods: espresso machine, siphon, conical drip and a 24-hour cold-drip apparatus. [Vingt Paris]
Happy Plates
- D-Leb highlights a textbook-perfect example of “using great ingredients and not doing much to them” at Les Fines Gueles, detailing a plate of burrata that’s been sprinkled with bits of gently toasted almonds to “bring out the flavors of the milky cheese by providing a bit of contrast.” With sliced ham and a pour of olive oil, it sounds like heaven on a warm Spring evening. [David Lebovitz]
- Emmanuel Rubin gives a whopping
to L’Abeille, the new gastronomic table inside the Shangri-La hotel. Chef Philippe Labbé’s dish of spring artichokes done two ways may be a “garden in the mouth,” but it’s an expensive plot with tasting menus priced at 210€. [Le Figaro]
Happy Plates
- Patricia Wells rates the “parchment-paper thin, golden” galettes at West County Girl “truly outstanding.” [Patricia Wells]
- La Wells also visits Philou, praising the “moist and meaty pig’s cheeks” and calling the place “super loud, super fun, and a super bargain.” [Patricia Wells]
- By way of a compliment, Wendy Lyn declares current press darling Dans Les Landes “the ultimate ‘swine’ bar.” [The Paris Kitchen]
Madman Jacques Genin started the made-to-order millefeuille craze, but that’s only one reason to visit his chic haut-Marais shop and tea salon. Some others? The chocolates, the caramels, the éclairs, the tarte au citron, the…sigh.
Happy Plates
- Alexander Lobrano has a budding crush on Le Pantruche, recalling coddled eggs and salt cod, foie gras, and feathered caps. His soufflé fell flat and the rice pudding was soggy, but he still gives the new bistro a B+. He also raves over the Shanghai style grilled dumplings at Q-TEA. [Hungry for Paris]
- Patricia Wells‘ latest review, which promises “a calming Zen moment,” may cause you to cancel your next spa day in favor of lunch at Toyo. [Patricia Wells]
