Openings
- A new taqueria and cocktail bar called Candelaria will open tomorrow night at 52 rue de Saintonge in the Marais. Mexico-born chef Luis will be making tacos and artisanal cocktails will be poured by Josh and Carina from Experimental Cocktail Club & Curio Parlor. [via Trail of Crumbs]
Happy Plates
- Caroline Mignot joins the chorus singing praise for Dans les Landes, where she received “the warmest welcome I’ve ever had in Paris. Her descriptions of Basque-style razor clams and mussels, a velouté of celery root with cubes of foie gras and Granny Smith, and crispy fried chipirons have rendered us starving. [Table à Découvert]
Accolades
- Nordic cooks reigned supreme at this year’s Bocuse d’Or competition, with teams from Denmark, Sweden, and Norway sweeping the podium. The winner was Rasmus Kofoed of the restaurant Geranium, and you can congratulate him personally at the Omnivore festival in Deauville next month. [Cuit Cuit]
- Bruno Verjus tells us that Kofoed is only 36, has a Michelin star, and finished second and third in the two previous contests. Today I put on pants before 10am. [Food Intelligence]
Happy Plates
- John Talbott calls Playtime “inventive and delicious,” and, refreshingly, does not compare the Eames chair- furnished dining room to a Mad Men set. [John Talbott]
Daikon, wasabi, parmesan, sesame, curry, arugula, sesame? The ingredients are all over the map at this retro-neo bistro in the 10th, and so are the critiques.
