- Burger truck! Burger truck!!! I never thought this day would come. Le Camion Qui Fume started smoking this week and will be rolling up next in the Place de la Madeleine tomorrow from 9am to 2:30pm. Check their website/FB/Twitter to keep tabs on their schedule. Phyllis Flick tried them yesterday at Le Point Ephèmere and renders this verdict: “Amazing. Homemade toasted rolls and freshly ground beef made for a particularly juicy burger with just the right amount of fat. I had the blue cheese burger with caramelized onions, bleu d’Auvergne and port wine sauce which was outstanding… These burgers kicked-ass compared to the burgers you normally get in Paris.” [Paris Notebook]
- And in other Americana, Patricia Wells is leading an effort to have a plaque installed at 81 rue de l’Université, the Paris apartment where Julia Child once lived and wrote much of Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

- John Talbott is not wowed by the new chef at Fish. He likes the price (three courses for 26€) and the fact they’re open on a Sunday, but says the food is just a “tad above average”. [John Talbott's Paris]
- So where did the old chef go? He (Matthew Ong) and bartender Hayden Clout opened a new place called Albion. They’re open Tues-Sat at 80 rue du Faubourg Poissonniere, 75010.
- Adam Wayda continues his campaign to simultaneously deify and pornify poor Jacques Genin. “Every time I bite into one of His éclairs, I feel as though I’m tearing through something Divinely transubstantiated – engaging in a sensual violation of a perfect and holy flesh – rendered in pâte a choux.” Blasphemy has never sounded so delicious. “…..These burgers kicked-ass compared to the burgers you normally get in Paris.”
Ah, Phyllis, you’ve been here too long. Come home, all is forgiven.
But I was so impressed by your reaction that I told the guys at Le Petit Cheval de Menege who are ex and maybe still at l’American Bistro (and which they claim has great burgers) to check the truck out.
Now all we need is a cool fish taco truck.
Tried the burgers this weekend and while they’re not bad, the team in the truck has some kinks to work out. They advertise being open from 9-2, but they aren’t continuously open then. We wanted to grab food at 11:30 and had to stand in the cold for 30 minutes until they were ready. They were bickering amongst themselves, the prices for the same item was different in different places on their chalkboard menu.
The burger is good, but the bun is thick and cakey. Didn’t try the fries as my fingers were too cold to pick up tiny things.
