The Daily Bite: Predators and prey

- Aaron Ayscough visits the tiny wine bar tucked away inside David Lynch’s Silencio and finds “eight or ten selections of Douchebag Reds and Predatory Whites entombed in an Enomatic wine dispensing machine.” As for the space in general, “I detected little during my visit that separates Silencio from other overfunded nightclub projects around the world.” [Not Drinking Poison in Paris]
- Sébastien Demorand joins Alice Feiring in defending Olivier Cousin, the Loire winemaker who was recently accused of fraud and threatened with a €30,000 fine because he printed Appellation Olivier Cousin (AOC) on a non-A.O.C. wine. Demorand says the debacle is symptomatic of strained relations between winemakers and the authorities (in this case, INTERLOIRE), a context in which “an ordinary little wink of humor like Cousin Oliver is enough to set fire to the powder.” There’s a petition if you want to join the fight. - Thierry Richard has written a new book called Paris Pour les Hommes and is promoting with a photo peek down a young girl’s shirt. It was probably posed, but I prefer to imagine T-bone roaming around restaurants and shooting unsuspecting ladies from above. [Chroniques du Plaisir]
- Bruno says that La Taverne de Zhao (49 rue des Vinaigriers) is “the Chinese restaurant we’ve been waiting for in Paris.” You won’t find Shang Palace prices at this little joint near Gare de l’Est – one can eat here for less than €20 per person. [Food Intelligence]
