In Other Words

Restos sur le Grill (2020) lingers on the “super-chic” ambiance of the newest iteration of Fontaine Gaillon, not to mention the prices (“so cher, so chic!”) But issues start from the very beginning: foie on untoasted toast; cold butter presented on a platter of herbs; crudo sliced so thin it needs to be scraped off the plate. The verdict? A lack in “depth,” “flavor,” and “personality.”

Le Figaro (2020) is not fully convinced by Michelin-starred Marc Veyrat’s makeover of the restaurant formerly owned by Gérard Depardieu. While Emmanuel Rubin is “enchanted,” at first, to see the restaurant all dolled up, he calls Veyrat’s food “dated,” noting the chef “doesn’t understand the capital.” He calls the food “dated.”

L’Express (2020) claims that Veyrat’s arrival has added “elegance” and “chic” to the restaurant, serving a “sensible” appetizer of licorice-scented frog’s legs, lamb chops with thyme and ho-hum sides, and a giant profiterole with a sesame mousse twist.
