John Talbott (2009) “… what most Americans (including ourselves) must consider ‘the’ quintessential French/Paris restaurant – red velvet banquettes, brass fixtures, waiters in black and white…They had three kinds of game today, including lievre royale and grouse… generous and most excellent…”

Le Figaro (2007) “Lièvre à la royale: plaisir vampire. Soufflé Grand Marnier: incontournable…”

  1. You can safely skip Au Petit Margery. It’s in a no place neighborhood and they toot their food by claiming a recent Michelin star which I suspect is a fraud. Unless you order dessert with your dinner request, you are out of luck with getting a famous heralded dessert. They discourage ordering due to the lengthy prep time. You must order with your Starter. How outdated is that idea? Disliked the duck appetizer of barely cooked meat strips served like barely raw bacon. The Plat veal medallions were overpriced, undersized, and totally average in flavor and lacking in visual presentation. The Bordeaux wine is sub standard in taste and the Eu 12,5 price per 15 cl is insulting. You pay Eu 6,5 for tap water in your glass. The wait staff is attentive and professional and not responsible for the off putting establishment. A dessert of chocolate ice cream scoop came with a pour of Chartreuse over it, an awfully bland finish to a meal. Avoid such a restaurant that in a style that peaked in the 1950s and embarrasses French cuisine.
