The 18th is (yet again) Home to the Best Baguette in Paris

[portfolio_slideshow]Congratulations to Sébastien Mauvieux, whose baguette de tradition won the 2012 Grand Prix de la Baguette de la Ville de Paris. Bravo!

According to, 168 bakers showed up in the early morning with their samples, but only 124 were allowed to enter. The others did not meet the official criteria for size and weight.

Five out of the past six years, the prize has been won by bakers in the 18th arrondissement. It now seems like a legitimate hypothesis that there is, in fact, something in the water up there.

  1. I have been living across the street from Boulangerie Mauvieux for the past 9 months and I can attest that they have the best bread I have ever tasted. If you want to check it out, come on a Wednesday morning and pick up some beurre salé, cheese, and fruit at the market open across the street on Rue Ordener. Be warned that they aren’t open on weekends. Also, this neighborhood isn’t really a tourist haven, so bring your best français et politesse.
