Live-fire cooking defines Robert et Louise, a Marais institution where beef, lamb, and duck sizzle over an open fireplace in the ground-floor dining room. The wood-fired approach delivers generous portions at moderate prices — most mains stay under 30€, with classic French bistro fare like blood sausage, grilled lamb chops, and charred steak.

The main floor centers on a crackling brick fireplace where meat cooks directly over flame. This sensory experience — the sound of dripping fat hitting fire, the smell of wood smoke — is what makes the restaurant memorable. Tables in the basement lack this atmosphere entirely, so request “une table au rez-de-chaussée” when booking.

Robert et Louise serves traditional French cooking without pretension. Expect generous portions, garlic-heavy sides, and wine-friendly cheese. The restaurant opens on typically difficult days (Sunday and Monday), making it useful for weekend planning. Vegetarians should look elsewhere — this menu celebrates meat cooked over fire.
