Les Enfants du Marché is a Japanese-inflected counter tucked inside the Marché des Enfants Rouges, Paris’ oldest covered market. The concept is deliberately paradoxical: serious, inventive small plates — caviar tartelettes, karaage asparagus, offal, whole fish — served on stools in a bustling market hall, without reservations and without apology for the prices. The natural wine pours on request; the crowd is lively; the experience is casual even when the bill is not. Vegetarians eat here as well as almost anywhere in Paris. Adventurous carnivores will find things they won’t see elsewhere. It’s best understood as an occasional indulgence rather than a regular — the kind you justify with jet lag, a birthday, or a particularly beautiful afternoon in the Marais.
