The Bistrot des Tournelles opened in 2022 and was named “Best Bistro of 2023” by Le Fooding. They’re not the only ones who raved – I know plenty of people who loved their experience here. I found it to be pretty good, but certainly not the best of the year. Classic desserts like crème brûlée, tarte Tatin and chocolate mousse were delicious. Salmon gravlax and oeufs mayo starters were “correct” and tasty. Two dishes were downright bad – the croque Monsieur starter, which makes no sense as a starter anyway, and the over-friend and tough Chicken Cordon Bleu. It’s a beautiful room in a great location and I hope to return and love it more.

My husband and I had dinner here on our last trip. It was hard to score a reservation, and we were advised that they would charge my credit card if we did not show (which is fine for a first class restaurant.) But this was a HUGE disappointment. Hollandaise sauce on terrific white asparagus was scrambled eggs; salad was overdressed; ravioli pretty good but over sauced; chicken cordon bleu was a major – virtually inedible – disaster, but I guess that is my fault for not reading your review carefully LOL. Place was packed with Americans who seemed to pride themselves on speaking no French. (I was taken aback when the waiter said: “Oh – you speak French.” We are Canadian BTW.) To top it off, the price was twice that of Chez Georges – classic – Juveniles, and a number of other bisrots that I would recommend highly any time. Maybe it was an off night – somehow I doubt it.
